The rarest human design type, the Reflector, makes up just 1% of the world’s population. Their open aura allows them to reflect and mirror back to society how we’re doing and where we need to improve.
What’s Human Design All About?
Human Design (HD) is a spiritual tool that looks at various spiritual traditions and modalities, including the positioning of the planets when you were born, to create a map of your body and how energy flows within it (aka your ‘BodyGraph’). Your HD Bodygraph is like a map of your soul that shows you how you energetically function, how to make decisions best, how you learn best, how you will most effectively have your message heard, the greater themes you’re going to face in life, and the greater role you’re designed to embody in the collective.

Your human design type is determined based on the particular balance you have of defined and undefined energetic centres. Based on your energetic design type, there is a big picture energetic role that you’re designed to play in the collective:
- Manifestor: the great ideators meant to create big-picture visions for society
- Generator: the busy bee builders of society
- Manifesting Generator: multi-passionate creators of society
- Projector: guides of society
- Reflector: the mirrors back to society

Reflectors are Energetically Open
There are 9 energetic centres in the human design system, and what makes someone a reflector is that they have all 9 of these centres open or undefined. This means that Reflectors do not have consistent access to the themes of each of these centres.
It also means that a Reflector feels very different from one day to the next, as their energy fluctuates with the various transits.
Reflectors Are Designed to Wait a Lunar Cycle
Because of this dynamic, ever-changing nature, Reflectors are designed to await a full lunar cycle before making any major commitment or decision (such as a move, a job offer, or other major life decisions).
The Reflector is designed to regularly check in with themselves over that full lunar cycle (which is just under 1 month) to consider how they feel about the decision at that moment. A great tool for this is a journal – several times throughout a month, the Reflector journals how they feel about the decision. Eventually, they’ll have a cumulative sense of clarity about what is right for them.
The Gifts & Challenges of a Reflector
Like any type in human design, there are some gifts and challenges that Reflectors experience. That said, because of their open nature, each Reflector is quite different from one another.
Some typical traits of a Reflector:
- They are deeply observant and able to read people very clearly
- The correct environment is essential – more than any other type, a reflector will thrive in the right environment and deeply struggle in the wrong one.
- Naturally empathetic and sensitive to others and the energies around them
