Resilience Mindset is a term readily used in the online space that has created expectations or perceptions that being strong and resilient means you’ve gotta ‘have it all together’ and be able to ‘hustle hard’ at all times.
The problem with this perception of ‘resilience’ is that it doesn’t allow for the fall. It makes you feel that you must keep on the mask of ‘ultimate strength’ to be seen as resilient.
This couldn’t be further from the truth – and this blog post will show you why!
The reality is that a resilience mindset is simply the belief that no matter what, you will be okay. It’s the recognition that you have to fall in order to rise. That you have to honour the shadows to appreciate the light.
A resilience mindset is an ultimate belief and trust that you can handle whatever comes your way, even in the moments where you feel ‘weak’ or completely beaten down by life.
A resilience mindset doesn’t require you to ‘have it all together or ‘hustle’ at all times to be seen as strong. A resilience mindset recognizes that there is strength in all emotions, both dark and light.
The thing is… when you’re struggling through a challenging time, as a creative soul, you may find yourself feeling blocked, uninspired or lacklustre about your creations. This inner winter is actually one of the most creative times we have at our disposal, but if you don’t have the mindset tools to support yourself during those moments, it’s much more challenging to get creative when you don’t feel inspired.
Building up your emotional resilience allows you to:
BOLDLY pursue your creative desires with confidence
REBOUND from ‘setbacks’ quicker than ever before
LOVE YOURSELF fully and unconditionally, even in your ‘weaker’ moments.
I live and breathe this work because I’ve had to. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had to intentionally craft my resilience… beginning with my chronic anxiety diagnosis at age 8.
I was called to integrate resiliency into my coaching practice after surviving a fatal fire (and losing almost everything) in May 2022 and healing the trauma that came along with that. I know how it feels to feel at your absolute rock bottom, literally falling to the floor in utter exhaustion + despair with your life.
But it doesn’t take surviving a fire to call for resiliency work. I’m also a proud eating disorder survivor + anxiety warrior and have had periods of my life where I felt utterly lost. I know there can be periods or years of your life when you feel “weak” and that you just can’t handle all that’s on your plate.
In these times, we actually have so much creative energy within us… but if we don’t know how to work through it, that energy gets blocked.
It’s about learning how to hold deep space for yourself through the highs and lows.
It’s about being attuned and connected to your creative soul so you can live a full, passion-filled life.
And I know that it’s my work to help others cultivate that for themselves.
There are certain daily habits or intentions you can undertake in order to build and cultivate your resilience mindset.
Essentially, crafting resilience is about creating your own intentional habits + practices to build your resilience. A helpful way of considering all aspects of your emotional wellbeing and building resilience can also be to think of Thrive Global’s 4 aspects of a resilience mindset: Wellness, Awareness, Vision, + Motivation, all with a mindful practice at its centre.
In my experience as a coach, intentional journaling has been absolutely essential to building a resilience mindset for myself and my clients. Taking time each morning to have a soulful routine + journal will be a great first step in cultivating your resilience mindset.
RESILIENCY is one of the most valuable assets you can have as a human, but it’s widely misunderstood.
It’s not something you have, or you don’t have… it’s a muscle you cultivate and strengthen with practice and patience.
Journaling allows you to…
