If you’re sick and tired of generic, surface-level self care ideas and practices, and are craving a way to practice self care that feels really good for you specifically, then you’re in the right place. When you align your self care practices to your individual and unique energetic flow, you can cultivate a self care practice that actually nourishes and sustains you.
Your Human Design Type
Human design is a tool that helps you reconnect with who you are at a soul level and discover how you specifically energetically function and flow. Mixing together elements of astrology, the chakra system, other ancient spiritual traditions, as well as elements of modern sciences like genetics and quantum physics, your human design is like a map of your soul, your soul’s gifts and how you specifically energetically function.
Using your human design type to inform your self care practices is a beautiful way to bring intentionality to your practices but also to ensure you’re doing what will actually feel relaxing and fulfilling for you at an individual level.
Let’s break down what each human design type most desires, some aligned self care practices that will likely feel deeply supportive for that type and what is most likely to energetically drain that type so you can best support yourself before you burn out.
Manifestors
Core Desires: feeling peaceful, with regular solitude and a sense of freedom over how you spend your time
Aligned Practices:
Ensure you have quality alone time to ‘be in your shell’ in solitude for you to simply be (ideally each day)
Spend some time carving out more ‘white space’ in your schedule to allow for you to pursue your creative ideas and have regular breaks to restore your energy
Try confidence-building exercises like journaling and mirror work to help you embrace your bigness – you’re meant to have bold dreams, ambitions and ideas
Regularly check in with what you’re spending your time on and consider if there’s anything you want to let go of. You’re not designed to finish everything you start and knowing when to let something go can be a bold act of self care for a manifestor
What Drains a Manifestor: having to be constantly available to others, being asked to (over) explain yourself, feeling like you’re being controlled or not in charge of your time
Core Desires: feeling deeply satisfied in how you’re spending your time
Aligned Practices:
Regular physical movement and activity is essential for Generators – it will help you to burn any restless energy you may feel and likely improve your sleep
Create a list of all the self-care practices you enjoy that you can regularly visit to allow your sacral to respond to what it feels like doing that day.
Generators naturally have the ability to master skills they dedicate their energy to – taking up a new hobby that keeps your hands busy like crafting, knitting, etc. could be relaxing for you
Journal on: “what am I doing because I think I ‘should ‘ do it? am i ready to let this go to make room for more of what makes me feel lit up inside?”
What Drains a Generator: saying yes when your sacral is actually telling you no
Core Desires: having the freedom to pivot and bounce between the various things that light you up
Aligned Practices:
Allow yourself to switch or bounce between the different hobbies and self care activities that bring you joy
Practice tapping into your sacral (gut)’s response to how you wish to practice self care in the moment – your sacral will respond based on the external environment. For example, you see your fluffiest PJs in your wardrobe and your sacral gives you the YES that it’s time for a cozy bubble bath.
Journal on: “what am I doing because I think I ‘should ‘ do it? am i ready to let this go to make room for more of what makes me feel lit up inside?”
What Drains an MG: tight and rigid schedules or routines that don’t allow for you to switch things up or ‘bounce’ between the many things you care about
Core Desires: To feel seen and at ease, knowing your magic doesn’t come from trying to ‘keep up’ with others
Aligned Practices:
Create a slow and steady morning routine that allows you to pour into yourself before turning outwards to others
Study something that interests you – this feels very fulfilling for projectors and is a form of rest for us!
Create a schedule with plenty of white space to honour your natural productivity and need for more rest – Projectors are really not designed to try to work 40 hour+ weeks – Projectors are naturally efficient, able to get done in 2-3 hours what many do in a full work day
Practice going to bed before you’re exhausted
Ensure you have dedicated alone time each day to rest and practice self-recognition and validation
What Drains a Projector: trying to prove your value, overworking, accepting invitations that are not in alignment
Core Desires: Flexibility, time and space to understand how you feel
Aligned Practices:
Journal daily to check in on how you’re feeling about your day-to-day emotions and any big decisions you’re considering
Give yourself permission to change your environment or who you’re around – this is important for a Reflector especially to make aligned decisions – a Reflector will thrive in the correct environment for you with the right people
Practice following what surprises and delights you in the ways you practice self care
Ensure you’re creating strong boundaries to protect your natural sensitivity
Embrace practices that allow you to play and embrace different identities – like acting, improv, dancing, art, ghostwriting, etc.
What Drains a Reflector: trying to push yourself to decide things quick, unaligned environments
Honouring Your Type in Your Self Care
The key with all things human design is to embrace the journey and experiment with what works for you specifically.
Allow yourself to pick one to two things from the list above to start practicing and start there
Ultimately, it’s not about adding to your plate by doing more – but rather, its about stripping back to doing what matters most.
Aligned and sustaining self care practices allow you to
Care deeply for yourself which allows you to pour more deeply into everyone else in your life
Show up more fully and present in your life and creative career
Cultivate deeper awareness of yourself and what works for you
